Shock Leader

 

When casting long distances with heavy weights, you would do well to employ a shock leader to absorb the shock of the cast, which so often ends up in a 'crack off'. 



Loop the end of your leader as shown above. (Amnesia is used here) Do a loose double overhand knot.


Slowly pull the ends to bring the knot together

 

 


Stop tightening once the knot reaches the figure of eight stage as shown here.3




Now thread your main line through the loops in the figure of eight and pull flat




Form a loop with the main line.


Pass the main line through the loop and round the shock leader 4 times.




Pull all four ends together to create two knots





Finally, wet the knots to prevent friction damage, and pull together.
